Wideband High-Speed and High-Accuracy Instantaneous Frequency Measurement System

A new photonic-assisted instantaneous frequency measurement system is presented. It overcomes the latency problem in reported structures based on frequency-to-time mapping technique or frequency-to-power that involves a long length of fiber, and at same time, enables incoming microwave signal to be measured over wide range with only small errors. The generates three low-frequency signals. phases signals are compared. One two phase differences used estimate unambiguously other provide accurate measurement. proof-of-concept experiment set up. Experimental results show, by measuring difference signals, input can determined 15 GHz 500 MHz ranges errors below ±220 ±10 respectively. Hence, using differences, accurately range. has fast response which an order magnitude shorter than systems kilometer-long fiber.
